This is a vintage Catholic devotional souvenir of Saint Anthony of Padua, set within an ornate, ruffled plastic frame (like celluloid or early acrylics) to mimic the intricate, ruffled look of traditional Murano glassware. The relief casting features Saint Anthony holding the Infant Jesus in his arms, a traditional representation symbolizing his vision of the Christ Child. The banner reads "S. ANTONIO DI PADOVA" (Saint Anthony of Padua). The lower half depicts the distinctive architecture and domes of the Basilica of Saint Anthony in Padua, Italy. These types of framed plaques were highly popular Italian religious souvenirs and devotional items produced in the 1950s. This piece measures 2.75" x 2" and originally had an easel stand on the back. That has been replaced with old wire, so now it can hang or lean.
