These are vintage Cousin Frères Wervicq "Fil de Lin" black linen thread spools on iconic red starburst-shaped cardboard cards from France. Cousin Frères is based in Wervicq-Sud in the Nord region of France. It is 100% linen thread, highly valued for its exceptional strength and durability. These beautifully shaped bobbins typically date from the 1930s through the WWII era. This WWII-era black linen thread, wrapped on a bold red card, was once carried by soldiers to mend their uniforms in the field. After 80+ years, the thread remains fully functional despite a little wear on the card itself. They were commonly included in French military personal sewing kits (trousses de couture). Each red decorative cardboard spool holds 15 meters of thread or about 49 ft.
