Enhance your collection of religious ephemera with this beautiful antique French Catholic holy card (image pieuse) featuring the Immaculate Conception. Beautifully preserved under glass, this piece offers a captivating look into 19th-century European devotion.
The central card depicts the Virgin Mary in traditional white-and-blue robes, surrounded by cherubs in the clouds. The design is a beautiful reproduction of the classical masterpiece by Spanish Baroque painter Bartolomé Esteban Murillo. It features the French inscription "Immaculée Conception" printed elegantly along the bottom border.
The rectangular devotional card is creatively mounted inside a diamond-shaped mat. It is set against a background of authentic vintage cursive handwriting distinctly dated "10 Avril 186...", grounding the assembly firmly in the mid-to-late 19th century. It is safely preserved and housed behind glass to protect the delicate paper, vibrant inks, and historical handwriting from dust and wear. The diamond measures 7.75" x 6" point to point.
This piece is in very good antique condition. The card shows minor, age-appropriate toning and soft edge wear, which beautifully enhances its historical character. Colors remain clear and distinct under the glass.
