Beautiful, authentic 19th-century French hand-painted folk art navette box. This charming container features a classic elegance that perfectly captures the era's romanticism.
The lid boasts a beautifully hand-painted, central oval vignette depicting a nostalgic scène galante—a courtly gentleman and lady dressed in late 18th-century attire. The romantic central imagery is framed by detailed, dark blue-green floral borders and elegant geometric stippling along the pointed edges of the navette shape. The interior and the exterior bottom are entirely lined with their original, authentic hand-marbled paper. Finding these pieces with the delicate marbled paper intact on both the bottom and interior is highly desirable for collectors of antique French box-making and bookbinding arts.

This item is in lovely antique condition, showing a beautiful patina and wear consistent with age (nearly 200 years old). There is minor expected craquelure, light rubbing, and small chips to the paint surface along the rims, which only enhances its authentic historical charm. The structural integrity is sound, and the lid fits beautifully.

The box is 7.5" long, 3.2" at its widest point, and sits at about 2".

An exquisite addition to any collection of French decorative arts, Tôleware, or antique folk art boxes.
