This is a beautiful, rare 18th-century relic. This piece was part of a collection of 13 pieces. It is a stunning piece—a superb devotional shrine of The Virgin Mary and St Eufemia. The first pictorial depiction of "N.S. da Boa Viagem" translates to "Our Lady of the Good Voyage." It refers to a religious figure, specifically the Virgin Mary, and is used in the names of many churches and shrines dedicated to her. The name suggests protection and guidance during journeys, both physical and spiritual. The second pictorial is St. Euphemia. St . Euphemia is a highly venerated saint across all Christian traditions, celebrated for her unwavering faith in the face of persecution, ultimately leading to her martyrdom. Her miracle is also celebrated in the Eastern Orthodox communion according to that 11th-century account. This relic measures 5.4" wide x 3.75" high and 1.3" deep. Many different materials were used in making this piece, including gilded paper, flowers, glass, an antique book, marbled paper, and other materials.
