A truly enchanting survivor of 19th-century French luxury packaging. This authentic antique cardboard confectionery box (boîte à bonbons) dates to the mid-to-late 1800s (circa 1850–1880) and would have originally held premium chocolates or candied fruits from a high-end Parisian confiserie.

The lid features a beautifully detailed, black transfer-print central medallion depicting a quintessential French romantic pastoral scene: a figure relaxing on a rope swing beneath a grand tree, while a companion looks on. This charming motif is framed by exquisite, multi-layered circular borders, including delicate geometric lace-work and flowing foliate scrolls typical of Victorian-era French papercraft.

Shallow, large-format cardboard boxes from this era are incredibly fragile and rarely survive intact. Designed as keepsake presentation pieces for holidays and gifts, this beautiful box works well as a tabletop conversation piece, a jewelry/trinket holder, or a display alongside antique textiles and French Country decor.
