Extremely fine and rare 1700s French armorial silver intaglio seal. Beautifully crafted this seal features a helmet over a battlefield tents as well as many other lovely features. It is made of .800 silver with a turned wood handle. It is a true gem for collectors of vintage seals. The seal matrix is about .75" wide and 1.75" long. It stands at 2.5" tall. This piece is perfect to use as a seal and it is a beautiful piece of French history. These are some of the hardest seals to find. Found in Vourles, France.
800 silver refers to a silver alloy that is 80% pure. Pure silver is very soft and easily damaged, so for most practical purposes, silver is mixed (alloyed) with other metals in order to strengthen it.
