RARE eighteenth-century French silk embroidery figural panel representing the Madonna holding a cross. Purchased in Provence, France, this panel dates to the late 1600s or early 1700s. This embroidered appliqué depicts the Virgin Mary with a cross. This is a very old piece in as-found condition with appropriate signs of wear commensurate with great age and use. There has been no preservation work to the reverse, and the piece is stable. The applique measures 20" tall and 8" wide. This piece is in Fantastic condition, given its age of over 320 years.
