This is a large antique French handmade needlepoint panel from a church. This is completely hand embroidered with a central design of a sheep. Around the central sheep motif are florals and vines. The central design of the sheep is raised or tufted, giving it a dimensional look. The back of the piece is red velvet. This is a very firm piece and I can see stitching around the edges and assume there is a thick board inside to maintain the integrity and shape of the needlework. This is by far a stunning piece. This probably sat at the front of the church as part of a liturgical display. It measures 17" wide x 7" tall and is just over 1/4" thick.
