Beautiful late 1700s to early 1800's frames religious icon. This is St Charles Barromee under original glass. While this represents St Charles Borromeo, it is not spelled the same, which I account for by its age. In the center is St Barromee with two angels on either side of him. The color on this piece has not faded, and the glass is intact. You can actually see the bubbles and striations in the glass, which is wonderful. The gilt frame has been careworn and chipped over time, and the back is magnificent, covered in a lovely piece of script vellum. There is an original hook hanger at the top. How this piece has survived with the glass intact for over 225 years is beyond me. It is a little dusty and needs a good cleaning and a soft brush. The engraving is in wonderful condition and the color is intact. This framed piece measures 9" x 11" x .75". Another amazing antique from France.

Fun Facts -

Quotes from St Barromee. The first one is said to be a quote from when he was with the ill during the plague. Other priests feared for their own safety while St Barromee did not. We have only one life and we should spend it for Jesus Christ and souls, not as we wish, but at the time and in the way God wishes.
