Beautiful antique Georgian pinchbeck (1714 to 1837) Scottish thistle seal. We purchased This lovely piece from a private collector in England by way of Scotland. The pinchbeck seal features a lovely thistle with the words "DINNA FORGET" on it. Pinchbeck metal is an alloy of copper and zinc, designed to resemble gold in appearance, invented by a London clockmaker named Christopher Pinchbeck in the early 18th century; essentially, it's a type of brass that was used to create affordable "gold-like" jewelry for people who couldn't afford real gold at the time. The seal is approximately .70" in diameter and stands about 1.2" tall. This is a very old and solid antique piece in magnificent condition and would make a fine addition to any collection.
