Beautiful antique French red-striped, creamy linen and hemp household towels, also known as torchons, from the 1800s, which are very durable. These towels will last a lifetime with proper care. These unbleached coarse chanvre linen and hemp torchons feature a chic double red stripe and a monogram tag. All are in superb condition.  I also purchased some of these for our stitchers; they are perfect for needlework projects and for use as towels. Each one of these has a loop hanger.

To clean hemp, linen, or nettle, wash in your washing machine with soap and warm water. Once removed from the washing machine, snap out any wrinkles. Hang to dry and then press with a hot iron. The more these fibers are washed, the softer they become.

These measure 22" x 38".

Fun Fact -

“Torchon” means “dish towel” in French, as foie gras was traditionally wrapped in a towel for cooking. Many prepared torchons are sold wrapped in a towel to make that historical connection.
