Beautiful antique miniature portrait frame containing a plaque of the "Virgin of the Grapes" (Madonna of the Grapes). The original 1640 Baroque oil painting was created by the French master painter Pierre Mignard. The miniature portrait is set within an ornate, hexagonal gold-gilt frame, sometimes referred to as Florentine metalwork. While we found this piece in France, it was actually made in Italy, as the back also reads "Made in Italy." Pieces like this were often produced as monastery artwork. These decorative pieces were popular for home altars and private prayer spaces, serving to invoke divine protection.
