ORIGINAL and beautiful signed antique French idyllic landscape and lake painting from the 1800's. This is a Barbizon School piece and is a wonderful oil on a beveled board. Members of the Barbizon School came from different backgrounds and worked in a range of styles but they were drawn together by their passion for painting "en plein" air and their desire to elevate landscape painting from a mere background to mythological or classical scenes to a subject in its own right. This piece is brilliant and our pictures do not do it justice. The overall dimensions are 11" x 7.5". This truly is is a lovely piece.
The Barbizon school was active roughly from 1830 through 1870. It takes its
name from the village of Barbizon, France.
