Antique 1800s French candle sleeves. These candle sleeves are from a church. We were lucky enough to purchase an extensive collection of original church pieces. These were probably used on an altar display. The sleeve would fit over the candle for decoration. I did not clean or polish these. I prefer the current patina. They are 5.25" long and 1.2" in diameter. You are getting the pair of sleeves. They came to me as a set, although one is slightly larger than the other.
Ormolu is the gilding technique of applying finely ground, high-carat gold–mercury amalgam to an object of bronze, and objects finished in this way. The mercury is driven off in a kiln, leaving behind a gold coating. The French refer to this technique as bronze doré; in English, it is known as gilt bronze.
