Antique 1800s French candle sleeves. These candle sleeves are from a church. We were lucky enough to purchase an extensive collection of original church pieces. These were probably used on an altar display. The sleeve would fit over the candle for decoration. I did not clean or polish these. I prefer the current patina. They are 5.25" long and .80" in diameter. You are a pair of sleeves per purchase, and we have two pairs available. They are all the same and come adorned with crosses.
Ormolu is the gilding technique of applying finely ground, high-carat gold–mercury amalgam to an object of bronze, and objects finished in this way. The mercury is driven off in a kiln, leaving behind a gold coating. The French refer to this technique as bronze doré; in English, it is known as gilt bronze.
