Antique French idyllic landscape canvas painting. This is an early piece. It is a wonderful early French oil of a village on a mountaintop painted on a flat loose canvas. The canvas appears to be a cloth canvas, not an original paint canvas. I think it was a make-do canvas cut from something else so it could be repurposed. You can see stitching holes on the left-hand side of the painting. Given it dates from the 1940s it could have been something recycled from WWII. You never know but from the looks of it, that is my guess. It is an original painting we purchased in France. I love this piece and the careworn look it has acquired over time. Just a fabulous piece. The overall dimensions are approximately 7" x 10.25". This truly is a lovely signed picturesque and tranquil piece. It was signed and dated in the 1940s. It just needs to be framed.
