Beautiful Virgin Mary cradle medallion. This is a classic French religious item to give to a loved one to celebrate a newborn's birth. It can be placed beside a crib or on a bedside table.
It features a silver-colored Miraculous Medal of the Virgin Mary set into a diamond-shaped, green-tinted bakelite celluloid plastic plaque. The central metal artwork depicts the Virgin Mary as she appeared to Saint Catherine Labouré in Paris in 1830. Light rays extend from her hands, symbolizing the graces she sheds upon those who ask. The medallion is inscribed in French with the phrase "O Marie conçue sans péché priez pour nous qui avons recours à vous". It translates to: "O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee." It has ring hooks and a chain for hanging. The medallion measures 2" square, not including the hanger. This piece is in fantastic condition.
