Beautiful antique scapulars from France, Italy, and Spain. Unfortunately, we cannot tell which country each piece came from as we purchased an entire collection of over 250 pieces. Each scapular has been hand-sewn.
Scapular A is made of soft cloth. Its two pieces are stitched together. Its two pieces are stitched together. It is adorned with a picture of the Madonna. The bottom reads Ave Maria Purisima. "Maria Purisima" translates to "Mary Most Pure" or "Hail Mary Most Pure" in English. It measures approximately 1.75" x 2.4".
Scapula B is made of soft cloth. Its two pieces are stitched together. It is adorned with a picture of the Madonna. The top reads D. Maria Purisima. "Maria Purisima" translates to "Mary Most Pure" or "Hail Mary Most Pure" in English. It measures approximately 1.75" x 2.4".
Scapulars were usually made to order by nuns in convents. Devotional scapulars are objects of popular piety designed to show the wearer's pledge to a confraternity, a saint, or a way of life and remind the wearer of that promise.
Please note that these are not new. These are antiques, so wear is commensurate with age.
