ORIGINAL and beautiful antique French watercolor. It features a tree by a lake. There are two unfinished people in the watercolor. One is sitting, and one is standing. This piece is characteristic of intimate outdoor nature studies popularized by French artists and students during this era. Rather than a grand, strictly structured composition, it focuses heavily on capturing atmosphere, natural organic movement, and delicate atmospheric light through quick, soft washes. The watercolor centers entirely on a sprawling, weathered pine tree set against a soft blue, clouded sky, flanked by a smaller blossoming tree on the right and an abstract, pale structure or rock formation on the lower left. This is a lovely piece from the 1800s. This piece is part of a larger collection of original French art.
