ORIGINAL and beautiful antique French watercolor. It features a wooded area around a bridge. The back has writing on it. It reads -
First line - Le Pont sur le Ru" (The Bridge over the Ru).
Second Line - "Maison Madame d'Amboise" (House of Madame d'Amboise).
Third line - "Cartonnerie – devenue fabrique de pansements antiseptiques" (Cardboard factory – became a factory for antiseptic dressings).
Vertical labels: "Le Morbras" (a river in France) and likely a repetition or variation of the same name.
Le Morbras is a small river in the eastern suburbs of Paris (Val-de-Marne). The mention of a cardboard factory converting to an "antiseptic dressing" facility suggests a timeline around WWI when many industrial plants were repurposed for medical supplies. The faint circles and lines on the back suggest a map or topographic study illustrating the relationship among the bridge, the river, and the buildings mentioned.
This is a lovely piece of art. This piece is part of a larger collection of original French art.
