Lovely antique Italian ex voto hearts with crosses we found in Lucca. Personally, while they came from Italy, I think they might be from Spain, but I can't be sure. Both are silver and date to the early 1800s. What I love about these is that they were meticulously handmade. This type of craftsmanship is hard to find.
The combination of a cross with an ex-voto (such as a heart, hand, or plaque) specifically highlights the role of divine intervention in a person's life, signifying faith, protection, and gratitude.
