Beautiful vintage/antique French powder puff and trinket vanity box, likely made of aluminum or similar textured metal, dating from the 1920s to the 1940s.
Many of these specific round aluminum vanity boxes were manufactured in France (often marked "HP Paris" or "Made in France") or by American companies such as PNCW (Progress Novelty Casting Works).
The portrait in the center features a Victorian or 18th-century French Provincial illustration of a lady wearing a classic large-brimmed Gainsborough or picture hat decorated with flowers. These miniature portraits were typically printed on celluloid inserts, paper under glass, or enameled metal.
These unique pieces served a dual purpose on a woman's vanity table. They were initially used to hold powder and then to hold trinkets. This box is 4" in diameter and sits at 1.75" tall.
