This French bee skep with its unusual square base and rounded top is beautiful. The skeps (beehives made of straw are called skeps) with the wooden bases are the hardest to find. This is an original antique primitive French bee skep constructed from coiled rye straw and bound with strip willow. This one has two pegs on the front wher two wooden pules were placed through it. This can be seen by looking at the inside pictures. The Bee Skep is a lovely decorative feature inside or out and this one remains fully functional but I don't think I would use it. It is just to precious. This skep measures approximately 16" x 17.5" with 16" being it's height. It is one of the largest skeps I have seen.
