Beautiful antique French Catholic pocket shrines (porta-saints), dating from the late 19th century to the early 20th century (WWI era). These heavy, miniature metal figurines were traditionally carried by soldiers, travelers, and the faithful in pockets or purses as personal tokens of protection and devotion.
They feature a wonderful aged patina and fine details despite their small scale, and rest flat on their original integral bases. These are in
excellent antique condition. Both statues are structurally sound and intact, displaying authentic, untouched aged oxidation and wear consistent with their history.
Figurine 1: The Sacred Heart of Jesus, measuring 1.70" x .60", showing Christ pointing to His exposed heart. Features a rich, dark patina with hints of coppery undertones peeking through the folds of the robes.
Figurine 2: The Madonna and Child, measuring 2.1" x .75", depicting the Virgin Mary cradling the infant Jesus. Features a classic matte gray pewter/lead patina.
These are both beautiful pieces and would make a lovely addition to any collection.
