Beautiful early 1900s Victorian-Edwardian sailors' valentine shell art souvenir. This shell depicts a simple scene: a sailboat with flags swaying in the wind, its smokestack billowing, on a vibrant blue sea. You can clearly see the flags at the top of the mast. The artwork combines natural shell forms with a nautical theme, evoking a sense of maritime adventure. The shell measures approximately 3.5" x 3.25". This piece has a small hole drilled in the top with a hanger. Initially, these painted shells were used in sculpted shell art to hold an inkwell and letters, as seen in some of our other offerings. This is a lovely example of turn-of-the-century Edwardian-era shellwork.
