A beautiful pair of antique French ormolu bronze curtain tie-back holder hooks from the mid-1800s. These are untouched and original. They will polish up as required. Superbly cast with decorative fleurishes and acorns. Each measures approximately 11" in height. One has a maximum diameter of 6", and the other has a maximum diameter of 4".
Ormolu is the gilding technique of applying finely ground, high-carat gold–mercury amalgam to an object of bronze, and objects finished in this way. The mercury is driven off in a kiln, leaving behind a gold coating. The French refer to this technique as bronze doré; in English, it is known as gilt bronze.
