A beautiful pair of antique French ormolu bronze curtain tie-back holder hooks from the mid-1800s. These are untouched and original. They will polish up as required. Superbly cast with decorative fleurishes and acantha leaves. These fantastic hooks are also superb for coat hooks or towel hooks in a bathroom. Each measures approximately 12" in height and has a maximum diameter of 6". Each has a two-hole hanger for mounting and swivels.
Ormolu is the gilding technique of applying finely ground, high-carat gold–mercury amalgam to an object of bronze, and objects finished in this way. The mercury is driven off in a kiln, leaving behind a gold coating. The French refer to this technique as bronze doré; in English, it is known as gilt bronze.
