Santons are small, hand-painted clay figures from Provence, France, representing figures from the Nativity and local village life. This tradition began during the French Revolution when people made them at home for private nativity scenes (crèches). These charming "little saints" depict traditional characters like farmers, bakers, and priests, alongside biblical figures, creating elaborate, detailed village displays that are a beloved French Christmas tradition. Many artisan workshops still operate today, especially around Marseille and Aubagne.
