This precious antique French crucifix originated in the south of France circa the 1800s. The iridescent mother of pearl makes a fitting backdrop for the exquisite silver figure of Christ, which is very detailed and finely worked. Fancy silver ormolu mounts cap the top and the bottom. The mounts consist of repeating delicate scrollwork at the ends. There is a finial at the top onto which a silver ring is mounted for threading a chain or ribbon. The back of the crucifix shows the four mount spots where the crucifix is attached.
The measurements are approximately 2.5" tall (bottom finial to top finial), with Christ measuring .90" tall. This crucifix is in very good antique condition. I have not polished it; however, the finials could be polished to a lighter patina.
