Beautiful 1800s antique French to early 1800s framed angel. Piece #1 of a double piece of artwork. This engraving by Gilles Demarteau (1172-1776) is beautifully framed in gilt wood. The original is currently housed in the Louvre. This piece is titled "La fidelie", or "Loyalty" in English. The gilt frame has been careworn and chipped over time. The back is perfect, covered in brown paper with the framer's sticker on the back. The original hook hanger and glass are still intact after 150-plus years. It is a little dusty and needs a good cleaning with a soft brush. The engraving has a watermark in the lower left corner, but overall, it is a lovely piece. The framed piece measures 10" x 8" x .50" —another excellent antique from France.
