Rare antique French soapstone carving of a cross with the infant Jesus sleeping. This is a beautifully carved piece. It was probably a crib protector and can be again. I do not see where a hanger went so it had to be a shelf sitter. It is showing signs of wear commensurate with age. It is complete and apart from the repair done on the bottom where is was put back together there is just a little discoloration. Given its age it is in good condition. I would estimate late 1800's designed after François Duquesnoy who was a Flemish Baroque sculptor active in Rome for most of his career in the 1600's. A rare piece for the discerning collector. This piece measure 3.5" x 2" x 1.25". Please note that I did NOT clean this piece which I am sure will clean up nicely.
