An exquisite piece of turn-of-the-century French religious ephemera. This authentic antique image pieuse (pious image) serves as a souvenir commemorating a child’s First Holy Communion (Première Communion), dating from the early 1900s to the 1910s.

The central vibrant chromolithograph depicts a beautifully detailed scene of Jesus Christ offering the Holy Chalice to a kneeling young boy in prayer, with Saint Joseph standing beside him holding his symbolic stalk of lilies.

The print is housed in its original, highly collectible padded silk fabric mat frame. This artisanal frame features traditional French textile detailing, including twisted metallic rope cording, delicate gold bullion embroidery sprays, and hand-tied silk ribbon bow accents at both the top and bottom.

A magnificent piece of Catholic history, perfect for collectors of religious art, antique textiles, or French Victorian-era ephemera. This piece is in good antique condition, consistent with a textile piece over 100 years old. The padded silk background shows a beautiful aged patina. The lower silk ribbon bow shows some fraying and splitting due to age, which adds to its authentic historic charm. The metallic cording and embroidery remain intact. It measures 7" x 5.5".
