This fabric is an antique French quilted textile panel, specifically an early 19th-century (circa 1820) Toile de Jouy / Toile de Normandie hunting scene. The pattern shows a classic woodland hunting scene complete with stags (deer) sporting large antlers, hunting horns, hunting hounds tracking prey, and figures dressed in traditional period clothing. The color palette is Plum/aubergine/deep purple, printed on a natural cream or off-white background.
Pieces like this were traditionally manufactured in French textile hubs such as Alsace or Nantes and used for heavy bed hangings, coverlets, or drapery. Today, well-preserved fragments are highly collectible and often repurposed by decorators into custom accent pillows or framed wall art. It is structured as a boutis or whole-cloth quilt fragment, featuring dense hand-quilting stitches running through the cotton face, an inner cotton batting layer, and a clean, white, piped or bound edge finish. It measures 15" wide and approximately 47"- 48" long, and one edge is scalloped.
