Antique French decorative ex-voto carved wooden wall plaque featuring a blue finish with ornate raised gold text dated 1925. The text "RECONNAISSANCE A ST ANTOINE DE PADOUE" translates to "Gratitude to St. Anthony of Padua,". This is a traditional Catholic offering made in gratitude for an answered prayer or a received miracle.

This piece is dedicated to Saint Anthony of Padua (1195–1231), a celebrated Franciscan friar and doctor of the Church. The initials L.S. likely belong to the person who donated the plaque as a private "thank you".

Saint Anthony is one of the most popular saints in the Catholic tradition. He is commonly invoked for finding lost items. His most well-known patronage.

Such plaques were typically hung on the walls of churches or shrines dedicated to the saint. They serve as public testimonies to faith and the "pact" between the believer and the saint. The Museum of Popular Devotion in the Basilica of Saint Anthony in Italy houses thousands of similar offerings, documenting everything from healed illnesses to safe escapes from accidents.
