This piece is a beautiful classic antique rolled gold watch fob seal, likely dating from the mid-to-late Victorian era into the Edwardian period (circa 1860–1910). It features an ornate, open-caged pedestal structure made of rolled gold supporting a large, faceted purple stone—traditionally an amethyst or a purple paste (glass) gemstone. These fobs were historically worn as decorative charms hanging from a gentleman's pocket watch chain. The flat bottom of the gemstone often doubles as a matrix for a wax seal or intaglio carving. The seal measures .60" x .50" and sits at almost 1" tall. Rolled gold is a base metal core bonded with a thin layer of gold. This is a wonderful piece and would be a great addition to any collection.
