It's VERY sad, yet so heartbreakingly beautiful. Stunning antique Napoleon III French mourning frame Memento Mori boxed wreath with flowers. It is truly a beautiful antique piece, dated 1871.
This is a handmade mourning piece from France, unlike anything I have ever seen before. I have never seen one like this. The shadow box frame features a beautiful piece of heavy blue paper. In the center is a handwritten paper heart insert, heart, indicating that this is a "Souvenir de Marguerite Binquet, agée de 2 ans Décédée le 19 avril 1871". Souvenir of Marguerite Binguet aged 2 years old, deceased 19 April 1871. Margaret was two when she passed away. This could have been a wreath or flowers from her funeral. Surrounding the heart is a lovely heart wreath with layered flowers in near-mint condition. The back of this piece is covered in a beautiful paper with the original label still intact. The glass on the front is original and shows some of the manufacturing bubbles. The original hanger is intact and on the back.
The inside contents are near perfect, and the gilt frame is in lovely condition. This truly is a work of art, showcasing the creativity of people past and present. The piece is large, measuring 13.5" x 12" x 3", with a depth of 3".
