This is a beautiful relic we purchased in Normandy, France. A late 1800s antique French hanging relic. This is a wall hanging reliquary with a glass front. The glass is in perfect condition. I can see no cracks or chips, and it is firmly held in place. The central image in the relic is a piece of paper raised above the background paper. There are four florals at the bottom, and they are hand-painted paper flowers with stamens in the center. The outer glass features gilt embossed paper surrounding its outer edges.  The back and sides are covered in cream and brown paper. At the top of the back is a metal ring for hanging. This piece is approximately 3" wide and 5.3" long.

A relic is an object, custom, or belief that has survived from an earlier time but is now outmoded or considered old-fashioned.  Sometimes, relics are created by individuals for memories or sentimental interests. Identifying relics and their makers can be difficult, to say the least. A relic is also an artifact and a physical piece of human history. It does not necessarily need to be associated with a known historical figure. Relics have also been created over time to represent loved ones who have passed away.
