Beautiful antique paperolles relic of St Antoine found in Provence, France. This relic is dated to the mid-1800s. "St. Antoine" can refer to Saint Anthony, a famous Christian saint, or to numerous places and things named after him, such as Saint-Antoine-l'Abbaye in France or the street Rue du Faubourg Saint-Antoine in Paris. Saint Anthony is widely known as the patron saint of lost items, a status attributed to many miracles. Other figures, such as the author Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, and places, like the cheese Comté Fort Saint-Antoine, are also associated with the name.

Inside is a detailed paperolles relic with the name St Antoinne on a gilt label above the paperolles  with the name St Antoine. Below the paperolles is another gilt paper that I can't fully read. There are Dresden stars and a small Dresden border around the entire inside of the frame along the outer edge.  Paperolle in French is quilling in english. This is the art of using strips of paper that are rolled, shaped, and glued together to create intricate designs. The tiny strips of paper are wound around a quill to create coil shapes. Then the coils are glued at the tip and at the base of the coil inside a locket or small frame. The intricate designs include flowers, leaves, and various ornamental patterns similar to ironwork.

This relic measures 2.5" in diameter and is about .60" deep.  It is in FABULOUS condition and was made long ago. The glass is in mint condition. I can see no chips or cracks. We purchased this relic from an antique dealer in France and it is but one piece of the collection we were able to purchase.
