An absolutely fascinating find. These 1800s boxes are a rare treasure and a great piece of textile history. Something I have never found before. Found with a gentleman who gave me so much information on the production of silk. The silk moth eggs were delivered in these air-conditioned boxes to the silk makers or the silk cocoon producers and sellers. The tiny moth eggs were allowed to hatch and then removed to be fed on mulberry leaves until they were ready to produce their amazing silk cocoons. These are all clean and fresh, and I am sure these boxes were never used. We have 10 with the moth on the front and 1, which is orange, from a different maker. They are all approximately 3.25" in diameter and 1" tall. The insides are clean and beautiful. A truly remarkable and exceptional find.
