Antique 1800s French grapes. These grape bundle pieces are from a church. We were lucky enough to purchase an extensive collection of original church pieces. These were probably used in a display that could be easily assembled and disassembled as needed. At one time, the grapes were screwed into the base. Possibly a long rod with leaves. I did not clean or polish these. I prefer the current patina. The largest bundle of grapes measures 4" and the smallest is 2.25". You are purchasing the ENTIRE set of grapes—a total of nine pieces.
Ormolu is the gilding technique of applying finely ground, high-carat gold–mercury amalgam to an object of bronze, and objects finished in this way. The mercury is driven off in a kiln, leaving behind a gold coating. The French refer to this technique as bronze doré; in English, it is known as gilt bronze.
