Antique 1800s French corn. These corn pieces are from a church. We were lucky enough to purchase an extensive collection of original church pieces. These ormolu corn pieces even have the silks. These were probably used in a fall or harvest display that could be easily assembled and disassembled as needed. At one time, the stalks were screwed into the base of each piece of corn. I did not clean or polish these. I prefer the current patina. The largest piece of corn measures 4" and the smallest is 2.75". You are purchasing the entire set of corn. A total of seven pieces.
Ormolu is the gilding technique of applying finely ground, high-carat gold–mercury amalgam to an object of bronze, and objects finished in this way. The mercury is driven off in a kiln, leaving behind a gold coating. The French refer to this technique as bronze doré; in English, it is known as gilt bronze.
