This is a classic 19th-century French liturgical wall plaque, cast in metal, featuring a Gothic-revival or Baroque trefoil cross and decorative scrollwork. The central inscription reads "Jésus et Simon" (French for "Jesus and Simon"), referring to the biblical account in which Simon of Cyrene is forced by Roman soldiers to help Jesus carry his cross to Golgotha. The letter "V" at the bottom marks it clearly as the Fifth Station in the traditional 14-step Stations of the Cross devotion.
