Every now and then, I find some amazing things that I never expected to find because they are so rare. These are from a large lot of metal findings acquired in France. They are antique 1800s French decorative appliqués. Often used as ornamental pediments or crowns for mirrors, clocks, cabinets, or dressers. The pieces feature a distinct Victorian or Art Nouveau scrollwork motif with a prominent central oval frame meant to highlight key areas of furniture. They are made from stamped or cast metal, typically brass or iron, with a weathered bronze-and-copper finish. In furniture restoration or crafting, these antique appliqués are usually screwed or glued flat against a surface to provide a classic, ornate trim.
The patina is just perfect. Their design is so deftly executed that it makes the quality of these antique pieces outstanding! Each piece has the original wear to the metal commensurate with its age, but honestly... THESE ARE IN MINT CONDITION.
