Antique French architectural shelf from a church or monastery circa 1700s. This is a charming shelf and a perfect wall shelf for holding decorative pieces. This piece is all original except for the two hanging brackets on the back. They were added later. At one time, this was actually attached to or was part of a wall or a larger piece. It was removed, and the two brackets were added to make it work as a wall shelf. It is a lovely piece that, at one time, held a statue of some sort, and the wooden dowel-like holder would keep the statue in place. The color is white with decorative gilt bands. This piece has not been cleaned, but it can be easily cleaned with a damp sponge. I have left it as it came to me, as that is the way I prefer to leave things. Pieces like this are VERY VERY RARE and challenging to come by these days. The shelf is 8.5" long, 9.5" wide, and 5.5" deep. It really is a beautiful piece of history.
