A rare and remarkable find for ceramic artists, sculptors, or collectors of sacred antiquities. This complete, two-piece matching plaster press mold creates a single, fully three-dimensional (3D) heart-shaped devotional plaque or ex-voto medallion.
Rather than casting two separate flat plaques, these interlocking halves are designed to clamp or press together, shaping a beautifully rounded piece featuring detailed symbolic iconography on both the front and back.
Iconography & Symbolic Design
-
Front Face: Features a stylized Sacred Heart containing the classic "IHS" Christogram (the ancient monogram for Jesus) with a cross rising from the center.
-
Back Face: Features the continuation of the heart form, accented by two deeply incised crosses pattée (Maltese-style crosses) representing sacred wounds and divine devotion.
Crafted from dense, highly absorbent studio-grade plaster, this mold is ideal for press-molding clay, slip casting, or wax pouring. By lining up the contours of the two blocks, you can press a slab of clay between them to instantly produce a solid, double-sided sculptural object with raised, crisp 3D details on all sides.
The blocks are in excellent antique studio condition, boasting a gorgeous weathered patina, minor edge chipping that doesn't impact the interior casting wells, and faint remnants of historic red clay and studio pigments. When not in active use, they serve as striking, tactile display pieces for a rustic studio, retail counter, or curiosity cabinet.
