Wonderful antique French religious icon crowns. There are two crowns shown in these pictures, but they are identical. These were found in Provence and part of a large group of 1600-1800 monastery pieces we purchased. Both pieces are the same in every way. The patina on each one is beautiful; however, there are spots where they have each been scratched. On both sides, at the bottom, there are two small holes where there were possibly small nails to hold the crown in place. On the underside of the bottom is the original red paint. Clearly, this part has not been affected by time, and it has maintained its color. I can also see the same red on the inside of the crown, but it has faded with time and exposure. Each crown measures 6.5" at its widest pointt and sits at 5" tall. The base of the crown is hexagonal and is 4" from point to point. These are truly amazing pieces.
