Stunning antique seal from the 1700s. An unusual and captivating double-sided oval pocket wax seal, of copper/bronze alloy. Each side is engraved. One side has a central shield comprising a figure holding a sword aloft on horseback, below a Bishop's mitre and circumscription reading: FRAN. SANG. EPS. ADVEN. MAR. GVE. The other side has a central armorial shield below a helm and ornate mantling with an inscription reading: ANTONIO CEROVETO.
This is probably a personal seal for Antonio Ceroveto, who, presumably, was also a Bishop in his time. The seal is in excellent condition, although some wear is evident, commensurate with its age. It measures 1.15" tall and .86" wide.
