Wonderful 1800's cameo seal pendant and compass. Beautifully crafted with intricate filigree detail work. This cameo seal features a lovely carnelian glass main stone in an amber hue. The antique Victorian glass seal is a true gem for collectors of vintage and antique jewelry. The cameo fob is attached to a very small brass compass.
I purchased this piece outside of London many years ago. When I purchased it I was told it might have been owned by an officer in HRM service as regualr troops wouldn't have such elaborate items.
The seal features a cameo with what could be intricate silver details surrounding the back of the matrix. It doesn't look like brass or gilt metal. Attached to it is a small brass compass. The seal matrix is about .65" in diameter and .75" tall. The matrix is in wonderful condition and I can see absolutely no defects. The silver is worn smooth in places but this is typical given it was probably used a lot and it's age of almost 150 plus years. It just needs a good cleaning. The compass still works which makes this piece a true gem. This is perfect to use as a seal and wear as a piece of jewelry. Just a beautiful piece of history.
