Beautiful 1800s antique French gold-gilded carved-wood acanthus scroll pediment. It features heavy Baroque or Rococo revival styling, with prominent C-scrolls, sweeping volutes, and stylized acanthus leaf motifs It is constructed from hand-carved wood layered with a plaster or gesso composition base. The exposed light-colored material reveals areas where the fragile plaster and gold leaf have naturally flaked away with age, confirming its status as an authentic antique salvage element. Such components were originally part of grand overdoor pediments, church altarpieces, or massive mirror frames. This lovely gilt wood hand-carved piece was purchased in Provence. It is perfect as a home accent or a unique addition to one's curated collection. This piece can also be used to create an objet d'art. It measures approximately 12.2" x 7.5" x 2" and is a lovely display piece to hang or lean. Antique pieces like these are getting harder and harder to find.  Please note that the wear is consistent with its age —over 150 years old—and it is sold as found. This is wonderful for framing or displaying.
